Proper means of identification will boost online business — OLX

Published by

The Country Manager of OLX, an online classified site, Ms Lola Masha, has called on the Federal Government to establish a proper means of identification for Nigerians.

Masha, who made the call during OLX’s 5th year anniversary in Lagos, said that this would boost online business and safeguard the classified on the platforms.

According to her, a genuine means of identification will help to safeguard transactions that take place on the platform.

“If transactions go bad, we need to have a definite way of tracking the person involved and this can be achieved with the help of a proper means of identification.

“We have equally partnered with law enforcement agencies in the country to make our users, both those selling and buying, to be comfortable using the platform,” she said.

Masha said the business model of the platform relied on trust, adding that the challenge facing the site was low level of trust among Nigerians as regards doing business online.

She said that the only way to raise the level of trust by people was to have a valid means of identification in form of a national identity card.

She said that for the platform to have attained its first position in the industry, it has to do with the competitors that challenged them to raise their standard of operations.

Masha said that for the organisation to survive in the industry, they have to meet the needs of locals and specific users.

She said that setting plans and projections was difficult in the business because of the dynamic nature of trends.

“For us to survive, we need to adopt and for one to adopt, setting plans or projections will not be proper.

“We need to keep changing, adopting and planning as things come up,” the country manager said.
