Professor Shugaba emerges new UNIMAID VC

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic University of Maiduguri Professor Aliyu Sugaba has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri.
His appointment was done in accordance with the University Act 2003 and universities provision amendment act 2012 based on the new internal democratic process.
A statement signed by the chairman of council Professor Biodun Adesanya stated that the process which started after the necessary adverts were made from December 2018 produced eighteen candidates who applied for the position as at 31st January 2019.
“As of Thursday 31st January 2019 when receipt of application was closed, eighteen candidates applied for the position. However, four applications were dropped by the council due to improper submission. A total of fourteen candidates were shortlisted by the council and invited for an interview.
“Accordingly, the selection time table was prepared and the selection board met from 24th to 25th of April, 2019. The selection board prepared the selection criteria and considered the candidates through an examination of their curriculum vitae and interaction with them. The candidates were scored and the final scores were recorded.” He said.
Adesanya said that in accordance with subsection 3(c) of the universities miscellaneous provision amendment Act 2012, “the council hereby pronounce the first Candidate Professor Aliyu Shugaba who scored the highest as the Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri with effect from  3rd June 2019.”
Professor Sugaba, a fellow of the chemical society of Nigeria and an indigene of southern Borno is married with children.
