Professor Oshiote Andrew Okwilagwe (The first Professor of Publishing in Nigeria)

• Born July 17, 1951.
He hails from Jattu-Uzairue, Edo State. Okwilagwe holds a M.A. in Communication and Language from the University of Ibadan(1983), M.Litt (Publishing Studies) from the University of Stirling (1984). He obtained MLS in Library, Archival and Information Studies (1987), and in 1995, PhD in publishing from the University of Ibadan respectively.

• Professor Oshiotse Andrew Okwilagwe is a Nigerian librarian, administrator and the first Nigerian professor of publishing.

• He was the vice chancellor of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State and is currently HOD , Department of Mass Communication, Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo State.

• He is the Director of Stirling-Horden Publishers Ltd. Okwilagwe’s Stirling-Horden has published, worked with and for over 600 tertiary titles authors in Africa. He has published over 120 scholarly articles and books. His research focus is on the influence of Publishing, Library and Social Information Science on national development (Bibliotheraphy), with over 65 articles published in learned journals.

• His passion for book reading has no doubt contributed immensely to his success and many others in Africa.

• Professor Oshiotse Andrew Okwilagwe’s pet project is National Reading Culture Programme, starting January 2024.
