Productivity Centre, FIWON, Streetnet set to train informal sector on productivity techniques

THE National Productivity Centre (NPC) has partnered with Federation of Informal Workers Organisation in Nigeria (FIWON) and Streetnet International to provide specialised trainings and researches for sector players.

This was revealed recently when the General Secretary, FIWON, Comrade Gbenga Komolafe and his delegation paid a collaboration visit to NPC’s headquarters in Abuja.

The Director-General of NPC, Dr Nasir Raji-Mustapha, while receiving the joint delegates of FIWON and Streetnet International, said that the centre is positioned and ready to support all sectors of the economy in achieving growth and development through the deployment of productivity tools and techniques, trainings and surveys.

Areas of partnership agreements among the trio include organising the informal sector for the reach of the centre, applied research on labour productivity and social protection in Nigeria.

Others include inclusion of rights and freedom of street vendors into the National Policy on Productivity, specialised training on tools and techniques for productivity improvement of the informal sector in Nigeria, applied research on productivity and public place usage and applied research on productivity and  health conditions of workers in various sectors of the economy.

According to a statement by NPC’s Public Relations Officer, Victor A. Ainoko, a joint committee of NPC, FIWON and Streetnet International went further to put together a Memorandum of Understanding for the engagement in the area of research, training and organisation of the sector.

The NPC is an agency of the Federal Government under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment saddled with the task of stimulating and promoting productivity consciousness in all sectors of the Nigerian economy, monitoring productivity trends and leading the productivity movement in Nigeria to ensure a competitive and productive economy.

The centre engages in developing the mindset of individuals and institutionalising productivity culture among organisations for the enhancement of service delivery and quality of life through productivity promotion and advocacy; builds productive capacity through trainings, workshops and conferences; provides professional advice to organisations through consultancy services; deploys productivity tools and techniques to achieve improvement and growth through productivity and quality improvement programmes and measures productivity through measurement and index.
