Lecturers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba Akoko chapter, have called on the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, to investigate the activities of the management of the school “before things get out of hand in the institution.”
The call was contained in a letter signed by the chairman of the union in the institution, Dr Sola Fayose and made available to journalists, urging the state governor to, as a matter of urgency, set up a visitation panel to unravel some alleged atrocities in the institution.
Fayose said the call became imperative because of the reported infractions committed at the institution since the last visitation carried out by the immediate past administration some eight years ago.
In the letter entitled: “Dangerous dimensions/manifestations in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko and the need for urgent intervention,” the union gave the basis for the call for the VC’s probe as “the use of Ad hoc committee to replace Academic Programme Committee; tampering with the NUC-approved Academic Programme without recourse to the NUC BMAS, which is the template for any sound and valid academic programme in Nigerian universities and the suspension and recommending ASUU leadership and congress member for termination of appointment in utter disregard to the non-victimisation clause as contained in the MoU reached for the suspension of the July to October 2016 withdrawal of service action meant to press for the payment of several months salary and deductions.”
ASUU also accused the vice chancellor of the school, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, of flagrantly disregarding one of the recommendations of the last visitation panel that nobody that is above 70 years should be appointed as an employee of the university.
