Prisons chief solicits support for Kirikiri inmates

Published by

Deputy Comptroller of Prisons in charge of Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, Mr. Seye Oduntan, has solicited for more assistance from members of the public for prison inmates.

Oduntan made this appeal while receiving in his office the trustees of African Ultimate Human Development Trust (AUHDT), a non- profit and a non-governmental organization, led by its president, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwaseun Alli, who came to donate some materials, including mattresses and blankets, for the use of the inmates of the prison.

According to Oduntan, the inmates areas of need include skill acquisition, books for the library and vehicle to aid their movement to and back from courts so as to aid quick dispensation of justice.

The Deputy Comptroller of Prisons, however, expressed his gratitude to the organisation, saying the donated materials would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the inmates.

President of AUHDT), Chief (Mrs.) Alli, in her earlier remark, said the organisation was simply out to assist the government in taking care of the welfare of inmates and also encourage inmates to know that all hope was not lost.

According to her, the gesture was to let the inmates know and appreciate the fact that they can still be positively useful to the society.

“We are doing this to simply assist the government in taking care of the welfare of inmates and to also encourage inmates that all hope is not lost. We want them to know and appreciate the fact that they can still be positively useful to the society.

“We recognize the fact that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility in terms of taking care of feeding, clothing, education, welfare and so on of the inmates, and that is why we have come to give this token to assist government,” she said.
