Prioritisation of vulnerable, others’ welfare, my concern —Epe LG chair

Chairman, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Princess Surah Animashaun, has assured the vulnerable, aged and People Living With Disabilities (PLWD), in the society, especially those living in the council area of its support to ensure that their wellness,  wellbeing and welfare are prioritised.

Princess Animashaun stated this at a stakeholders’ sensitisation and advocacy programme for Epe Division on vulnerable persons, “an initiative of the Lagos State government, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (Social Protection Coordination Department), in collaboration with Social-Functional Media and UNICEF, held at the council secretariat, Ita-Marun, Epe.

She said that her commitment to driving programmes and policies that will prioritise social protection and uplift the lives of people in Epe division is sacrosanct, saying that together, they will continue to build a future where every resident has access to opportunities that empower and inspire.

She said: “This event is a beacon of hope for our people and was a significant step towards advancing social protection policies that prioritise the welfare of the most vulnerable members in our society.

“The programme is aimed to create awareness, foster dialogue and strengthen the framework for social inclusion and development within our communities.”

Princess Animashaun appreciated the Lagos State government for driving the initiative, just as she hailed the UNICEF and Socio-Functional Media for their support and partnership towards achieving the initiative.

She said that their collaboration was a testament to what can be achieved when governments at all levels and international organisations join hands together for the betterment of the people.

She noted that it was a great honour to host the significant stakeholders’ sensitisation and advocacy programme in the Epe division.

She said: “We must collectively salute the visionary leadership of the Lagos State governor as well as the ministry, international organisation and others for their support and for recognising the importance of the vulnerable in our society and emotional wellness and well-being among them and their families.

“I urge the entire people of Lagos State, Epe division and other organisations, including national and international to ensure that they rally round the vulnerable, so as to feel a sense of belonging and we should not ostracise them in our society.”

Stakeholders from various sectors came together to deliberate on how they can collectively empower individuals, families and communities through targeted social protection interventions.
