President’s wife intervenes in student’s rape, pregnancy for VP

The first lady, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has indicated keen interest in the case of the 16-year-old Junior Secondary School Three student raped and impregnated by the Vice-Principal of her school, the Day Secondary School, Tunga, Minna, Niger State, Muhammad Muhammed Kuyizhi.

This came on the heels of the appearance of the accused person before Magistrate Fati Auna in Minna on Monday.

According to Metro’s source, immediately the news broke last week, the wife of the president, contacted wife of the state governor, Dr Amina Abubakar Bello,  instructing her to ensure justice was done in the case.

On her part, the governor’s wife directed the Director General of the state’s Child Rights Office, Barrister Mariam Haruna Kolo, to make sure the matter was handled diligently and ensure justice was done.

The Press Secretary to the wife of the governor, Ms Aisha Wakazo, confirmed the story.

The accused person, in the meantime, appeared before Magistrate Auna, and was charged with offences contravening sections 19 and 25 of the state Child Rights Act.

The prosecutor, Abdullahi Maiyaki, informed the court that the accused had sex with the young girl three times in his office.

However, the accused said though he had sex with her, it was only once.

Chief Magistrate Auna, therefore, adjourned the case to today, Wednesday, April 5, 2017, for further hearing, while ordering that the accused  be remanded in prison custody.
