Presidential ticket: PDP BoT bars members against identifying with aspirants

AHEAD of its primaries to pick its presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections, the Board of Trustees, BoT, on Thursday warned its members to stay off from all the presidential aspirants of the Party or be sanctioned.

The Chairman of the BoT, Senator Wali Jubrin disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja yesterday after the emergency meeting of the Board.

According to him, the Board also confirmed his appointment and that of a one time president of the Senate, Senator Adolphus Wahabara as the chairman and secretary of the board for a tenure of five years respectively.

He stated that the meeting resolved that none of its members should be seen to be campaigning for any of the Party’s Presidential Aspirants ahead of the Party’s primaries as witnessed during the race for the National Chairman of the Party.

The BoT Chairman also added that the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secodus briefed the Board members on the progress so the ongoing preparations for the forthcoming primaries of the Party during which it’s candidates For the coming general elections would eventually emerge.

According to him, “the meeting resolved to bar all members from campaigning around with any of the presidential aspirants of the party, as members of the BoT, we are the conscience of the Party, we must remain neutral because we ‎are delegates to the National Convention for the primaries.

“We don’t see the repeat of what happened during the last election of the National Chairman of the Party when some members of the BoT pitched their tents with certain aspirants, we have resolved that any member who wants to campaign for any the aspirants to resign his or her membership of the Board now.

“On the ongoing preparations for the primaries of the Party, the National Chairman of the Party came around and briefed us and stressed to him the need to be fair to all aspirants in the race, we told him that the National Working Committee. NWC, under him, should do away from impunity and imposition of candidates.

“We told him that the processes of the Primaries should be transparent and rancour-free and above all, to guide against all the mistake of the past so as to enable party members to go into the general elections united against our opponents to be able to be victorious.”
