Presidential Amnesty Program: BUC Calls for Inclusion of Benin in scholarship, skill acquisition

A group, Benin Unity Coalition (BUC), has lamented the unjustifiable exclusion of Benin people by the Presidential Amnesty Program office in Abuja from the subsisting phases of the Programmes.

The director of the mobilisation, BUC, Mr Cornell Stanley Uwuehi-Edoba who spoke in Benin said that the coalition was unreservedly in support of Benin National Congress (BNC), agitation long agitation for the inclusion of Benin youths of Edo South as the area is host to the largest gas terminal in West Africa situated at Oben in Orhionmwon Local Government Area.

Uwuehi-Edoba pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently and unconditionally approve the inclusion of Benin youths in the ongoing scholarship and skill acquisition programme.

The coalition observed that as patriots, members of the BNC have acted as vigilantes, protecting headquarters of major oil exploration company as well as oil and gas pipeline installations in the state.

He said: “It is an affront to continually exclude the Benin nation merely because their youths have not taken to arm struggle or insurgency or troubling oil and gas installations operating in the area since the pilot scheme started in the year 2009.”

Uwuehi-Edoba warned that henceforth, Benin youths will not fold their arms helplessly and suffer from an unfortunate and mischievous exclusion from the amnesty program.

He called on Buhari to urgently consider the humane and deserving demand of the Benins, with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problems of violence in the oil-producing area of Edo State.
