Letters

President Muhammadu Buhari should hear this

I write this letter in my capacity as a traditional ruler and an ex politician who was elected a councilor in 1952. I am a true lover of Nigeria and I believe in democracy, hence, this my open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

There is no gainsaying the fact that there is poverty in the country and this is occasioned by unemployment. Many of our youths are not   gainfully employed after graduating from the university and  polytechnic, and this development calls for serious concern not only by the government but well meaning and spirited Nigerians.

My advice for our government is to initiate a process of having a data base of all employed graduates in the country. All the youths who have graduated from either universities or polytechnics or any other tertiary institution should register at their various local government

areas across the country. There should also be video recording of this registration so that there will not be fraudulent act in the process.

This will give the Federal Government the opportunity to know the exact number of jobless people in the country, and by so doing there will be provision for them.

When this registration is done, I promise on my honour to take the matter up and the wisdom which my God has given to me will be used to provide for the need of these youths, because government alone cannot solve the problem of unemployment in this country.

However, I must reiterate the fact that 80 per cent of our youths in Nigeria are not educated. There will also be provision for them. And on this note,  government must henceforth ensure that all drivers in this country go through the driving school. This will generate employment opportunity for the youths and also reduce accidents on the road. Whether they are commercial drivers or private ones, they should go through the driving school.

As a politician before I heeded the clarion call to serve as a traditional ruler in Oke-Irun in Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State, I have garnered experience to develop the people. I know how to provide the necessary resources for the project. That is the employment of our youths in Nigeria.

  • Oba Isaac Olokose, Oke-Irun, Osun State.
