Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday in Osogbo, Osun State capital implored Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion and political inclinations to pray fervently for the peace in the country.
He contended that development can only be guaranteed under the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, saying everybody must enhance peaceful co-existence in their respective communities.
Gowon, who is the convener of Nigeria Prays made these remarks during a courtesy on the Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola at the Government House, in Oke-fia, Osogbo.

The former Head of State explained that he was in Osogbo for a 2-day day programme of Nigeria Prays Southwest Zone, noting that the yearning for peace in Nigeria is overwhelming as a result of security crisis facing the country.
Gowon further emphasised the need for the nation to rise up and pray and not allow themselves to be pushed into hatred for one another, just as he called on every Nigeria to play their roles effectively in building the peace in the nation.
In his welcome address, Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola said the former head of state came at a time when the state is striving to restore its status as the most peaceful state in the country.
He said his administration would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring peace and effective security of lives and properties among the citizenry.
