Speaker of the Ekiti state house of assembly, Kola Oluwawole, has called on Nigerians to use the period of Lent, which began on Wednesday, to pray for the economic revival of the nation.
This is just as the Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ado Ekiti, Rev. Father Felix Odesanmi, also charged Christians to embrace repentance and return to God.
Father Odesanmi said in his homily at the Ash Wednesday Mass that Christians must determine not to let this Lent to be just another period of the year in their life. He said “return to God in true repentance; make this Lenten season count and embrace fasting, prayer and almsgiving which are the three pillars of Lent.”
He was joined in administering the ash on the hundreds of the faithful who turned up for the Mass by the assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Father Jerome Ogundele. Oluwawole, in a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, said Oluwawole, who is a senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), “charged Nigerians, especially Christians, to seize the occasion of this year’s fasting period to seek the face of God for the restoration of economic prosperity to the land.”
He admonished Nigerians to remain faithful to the cause of their country. “I want to seize this occasion to congratulate Nigerians, especially Christians, on the occasion of this Lenten period that starts today.
Despite our challenges as a nation, we are a lucky breed. “I want to implore us to use this period to seek the face of God for economic recovery of our nation. We have never had it so bad. But I believe that with prayers, we can get out of the woods.
“The period of Lent is a special time that God beholds us with favour. Let us use this period to seek for keys that will unlock our blessings.
“Let us be committed to the cause of our land. I congratulate our leaders; our governor, his deputy, wife and members of his government. I congratulate members of the State House of Assembly and all staff of the House and its commission.
“We shall witness more of this period, but in better economic situation. But let us remember that prayer I’d the master key. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, started with prayer and ended with prayer. Our prayers shall be answered,” he said.
Oluwawole also called on the people of the state to pray for the Ayo Fayose-led administration in the state, maintaining that “the peace of Jerusalem is the peace of her people.”
