PR: Expert harps on innovativeness, professionalism

A Public Relations expert and  Chief Consultant of TPT International, Mt. Adetokunbo Modupe has stressed the need for  PR professionals in the country to be open to innovative ideas that could resolve industry issues, to enable the practice to achieve the much- needed growth.

Agbaje: Why I dumped Tinubu

Making the charge in Lagos, recently, at the  PR Clinic of the state chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), tagged: Ideapreneurship: The Nature of Our Trade,  the TPT boss  believes this has become imperative if PR practice in Nigeria is to achieve the much-needed growth.

Describing  PR practitioners as ideapreneurs, who should be driven by intellectual ideas, tailored towards meeting clients’ needs,

Tokunbo,  who was the guest speaker at the event, affirmed that since the profession is dynamic, it has become imperative for  practitioners to re-examine their business modules as ideapreneurs, by thinking and developing ideas that would invariably translate into income generation.

“Don’t let the world drive you, drive the world with your ideas. This keeps us in a more respectable position before our clients who should not think that we are in the business just to make money. We should not see ourselves as entrepreneurs, though there is nothing wrong in thinking about wealth,” the Harvard-trained ideapreneur stated.

He described ideapreneurs as deep thinkers who create jobs, have a mind of their own; and are always ready to explore alternatives to the norms.

Tokunbo noted that PR practice is not enjoying the needed recognition in the country due to the proliferation of quacks, a development he attributed to the low entry barrier into the profession.
