Positive attitude critical to entrepreneurial success, economist tells Muslims

Published by

AN economist, Dr Abdul Rauf Babalola, has advised Muslims to demonstrate positive attitude towards entrepreneurship as a panacea for the present economic challenges.

Dr Babalola gave the advice in Abuja at the quarterly economic empowerment clinic jointly organised by the Abuja chapters of Organisation of Tadhamunul Muslimeen (OTM) and The Muslim Congress (TMC).

According to him, statistics has consistently placed the Muslim population atop the poverty ranking chart in the country, a predicament which, he said, was occasioned by their over-reliance on paid employments.

He, therefore, charged adherents of the Islamic faith to embrace entrepreneurship individually and in groups to significantly improve their economic fortunes.

He also counselled them to always maximise opportunities around them, especially in the area of satisfying specific needs of the society, to sell and make profits.

The coordinator of the joint forum of both organisations in Abuja, Ustaz Alli Abdul Salam, noted that Islam is all-encompassing and specifically enjoins Muslims to seek legitimate means of economic sustenance in accordance with the principles of shari’ah.

The chairman of the professional group, OTM and TMC, Abuja chapter, Mr Daud Adelakin, stated that the clinic was aimed at taking Muslims to the next level of their economic life for them to achieve their personal and communal goals.

He noted that both organisations had been at the forefront of enlightening Muslims in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on critical issues pertaining to their spiritual and general well-being.

The empowerment clinic featured paper presentations by professionals on writing winning business proposals, attitudinal aspects of entrepreneurship as well as financing strategies for small and medium scale businesses.
