Why should someone choose to employ the children of the poor as house helps? Can anyone in the United Kingdom or United States of America be bold enough to employ a minor as a house help? Is there anywhere it is written in the I999 constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria or the Nigeria child rights law to employ a minor who is expected to be in school as house help?
The rate at which those who use poor little girls and boys as house helps are maltreating and assaulting them is very alarming.
It is time for President Bola Tinubu to mandate the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, to take prompt action by withdrawing all these poor little girls and boys being employed as house helps from various homes across the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory, and send them back to school.
The Federal Government needs to protect the future of these vulnerable children whose parents cannot afford to send them to school.
Let us all speak against the use of poor little girls and boys as house helps in Nigeria. Such persons from poor backgrounds can become leaders of this nation. President Bola Tinubu should be a father to these poor little girls and boys and send them back to school. The Federal Government is expected to sound a warning to Nigerians to stop engaging the children of the poor as house helps.
