Political violence: Ila-Orangun community urges IGP on security

WORRIED by the recent hostilities between some members of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ila-Orangun, the Elders Consultative Forum of the community on Wednesday called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Abubakar Mohammed Adamu deploy more security personnel to the town ahead of Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections.

They said their request for more security personnel was informed by the need to douse growing tension and create a conducive atmosphere for the electorate to cast their votes during the elections.

Addressing a press conference in Ila-Orangun, the chairman of Ila Elders Consultative Forum, Mr Gabriel Ajiboye said the report gathered so far in the area made the call for extra security a necessity.

According to him,” For some time now there have been information and report of gun shooting in some areas in Ila-Orangun, which resulted in people been injured.”

“There have been further report of likely disturbances between now and the election time next Saturday. In other to seek peace between the two rival main parties, the two organs that we represent here, including Body of Concerned Friends of Ila decided to invite stakeholders from the two parties.”

“The stakeholders of PDP turned up while that of APC did not turn up. We spoke to the representatives of PDP and appealed to them to maintain peace. We will very much like to speak to the other party representatives and because they have not turned up, we want to use this opportunity to appeal to them to also maintain peace.”

“It is our right to participate in the election. So we are appealing to everybody to keep calm and make sure elections hold in the three local government of the area”, Ajiboye remarked.

He also implored the main rival parties and other stakeholders in the area to ensure that peace is maintained to ensure free and fair election on Saturday.
