Poliomyelitis: Kaduna govt begins national immunisation plus days

THE Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has started a six-day National Immunisation Plus in the state.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Hamza Abubakar, said this during the launch of the August National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) on Friday in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the immunisation plus will run from Aug. 2 to Aug. 13 in the 23 local government areas of the state.

Abubakar said that the national immunisation plus days would supplement immunisation campaign geared toward

He said “the immunisation plus started today (Aug. 2) in five local government areas with the fractional inactivated polio vaccination and tomorrow, Aug. 3, we will go from house to house.

“All necessary arrangements toward successful immunisation have been concluded and ready to implement.”

He urged mothers to make their children available for the immunisation to ensure total coverage of the state.

He said “I urge mothers to avail their children for the immunisation to ensure eradication of the disease.

“As we inch closer to the finishing line, the leadership and people of Kaduna State must remain focused, resolute and dedicated to achieving complete eradication of poliovirus that has caused us so much physical and social pain.”

He said the state remained polio-free since November 2012 and appealed to parents who refused to make their children available for the immunisation to do so for the good health of the children.

He appreciated partners for supporting immunisation activities and other healthcare programmes in the state.

The Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Council, Mr Saleh Shu’aibu, said the council would continue to support the state government toward eradicating polio.

He called on parents, leaders to ensure children received all the care they needed for healthy lives.
