KUMBOTSO Local Government Council of Kano State says it immunised 186,327 children against polio during the just concluded Polio Immunisation exercise in the area.
Alhaji Nasir Gwarzo, the Health Education Officer in area, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kano that the council recorded 95 per cent success in the exercise.
According to Gwarzo, the exercise cut across all the 11 wards in the local government.
He attributed the success recorded to the support of traditional rulers and community leaders given to the immunisation teams.
He said the compliance by mothers was a great development compared to the previous exercise in the area.
“During the last immunisation exercise, we faced a lot of challenges even though we exceeded our target then.
“But at the end of this fourth round, which ended Tuesday, we have seen a lot of changes in terms of compliance.
“In Kumbotso, our target was to immunise 181,129 children at the end of the four day exercise, but we succeeded in immunising 186,327 children.
“Our target in the last exercise was 181,129, but at the end of it, we immunised 186,461 children,’’ Gwarzo told NAN.
He attributed the slight drop in the figure to the movement by some immigrant Fulanis, who were around during the last round, but had now moved elsewhere.
