The palatial residence of a lawmaker representing Ovia Constituency in the House of Representatives, Barr Omosede Igbinedion, was razed by fire, on Wednesday.
In his bid to rescue the situation, an Assistant Superintendent of Police serving under the Aideyan Division, who was said to have inhaled smoke, was rushed to the hospital.
The policeman was said to have climbed a ladder to use the fire extinguisher to stop the fire from spreading but was overwhelmed by the thick smoke.

The burnt building was a wedding gift presented to Omosede by her father, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, who was also said be at the scene of the incidence accompanied by his wife, Lady Cherry.
The lawmaker who was said to have gone for a campaign rally later arrived to meet the house burning.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained, but it was learnt the fire started from the bedroom.
