Police Zone 11 command gets new AIG

Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Patrick Ogon Edung has resumed duty as 32nd Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone XI Command Osogbo which comprises Oyo and Osun Commands.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 11 command in Osogbo, CSP Ayeni Benjamin on Thursday.

The new AIG assumed duty on the 13th of November, following the redeployment of AIG Paul Ojeka Odama to Zone 16 Command Yenagoa, South-South Nigeria.

Background of the IGP

AIG Edung hailed from Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State. He had his elementary education at St. Patrick Primary School, Egbe-nbube Ogoja and his secondary education at Mary Knoll Secondary School Yala both in Cross River State.

The Police boss equally had his A’ Level education at Cross River State School of Basic Studies Akamkpa before he proceeded to the University of Ibadan (Premier University) in Oyo State for his degree program to bag a Bachelor of Art (B.A. Hon) in History.

The AIG Edung was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a member of regular course 16, 1990.

He did his one-year attachment to learn the rudiments of police work at Maiduguri, Borno State. He later became DTO Umuoba Division in Iziala-ngwa Local Government area of Abia State, and later made Abia State Command spokesman (PPRO).

AIG Edung was deployed to
Lagos State Command where he served as DCO Ikoyi Division. O/C Daleko Police Station under Mushin Division, DCO Aguda, DPO Iponri Division, CSP ‘A’ Lagos State Command Headquarters Ikeja; 2i/c Area ‘C’ Surulere Lagos, DPO Iju Police Division, Lagos, O/C Human Rights Section of SCID Panti Yaba, all in Lagos. He was later moved to Imo State Command to serve as DPO Oguta Division before his redeployment to the Nigeria Police Cooperative Society Lion Building, Lagos as Savings Manager.

The new Zone XI Police boss was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2013 and transferred to take charge of Police Training School Benin City as Commandant, later becoming Area Commander of Jos Metro Plateau State 2015 – 2017.

AIG was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2017 and deployed to be directing Staff Police Staff College Jos, from there to be DC SCID Abia State Command 2018-2020 and served as DC Maritime 2020-2021.

Promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and posted to Police Academy Wudil Kano in 2021 where he was appointed as AIG and deployed to Zone XI Command Osogbo.

The AIG is a grounded and experienced Police officer with exposure to training courses like Community Policing Course for Divisional Manager at Police Staff College Jos, among others.

He was in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operation in Pristina city, Kosovo (UNMIK) Sept. 2000-June 2002.

AIG Edung is a Community Policing expert, he promised to operate an all inclusive and open door policy of the policing system.
