The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 11, AIG Patrick Ogon Edung, has advised the residents of Oyo and Oyo states not to indulge in public unrest.
He made this known during an interactive session with the newsmen.
The AIG equally advised all parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against involvement in any violent protest as protest has never helped any nation and it is never a solution to the problems confronting the nation.
The AIG appeals to the public to consider alternative forms of activism and advocacy. He stated that protest can be a powerful tool for bringing attention to important issues but it can also have unintended consequences that can harm the community.
He urged the public to refrain from engaging in any form of public unrest as it can lead to disruption of public order, violence, and destruction of property.
It can also be used as the potential for confrontations with authorities, bringing negative impacts on business and the economy while causing harm to innocent bystanders.
He however emphasised the directive of the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (PhD npm,)that all persons taking part in protest should first document with their respective state commissioner of Police.
The AIG therefore called on all Nigerians to join hands together to collectively make our country great. not allow miscreants to hijack the protest and turn it into an avenue to cause mayhem.
The AIG said the purported mass protests scheduled for 01/08/ 2024 are one that if allowed to happen will further disrupt the peace and tranquility enjoyed in the country. So, he enjoins all stakeholders to collectively join hands to make our country great.
