Police rescue all-female kidnap victims in Delta

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reiterated the commitment of the Command to combating crime as operatives rescued three kidnapped victims and arrested criminal suspects on Monday.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the victims (all female) were on their way to a hospital for a checkup when they were kidnapped.

The kidnappers had already made a demand of N15 million ransom when a hunter sighted them with the victims in Egbudu-Akah Community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the State and reported the case to the police.

While the victims were rescued unscathed, only one of the suspects was arrested, and three cutlasses, two Tecno phones, a Solar Panel, Power Bank, Charms, two Torch Lights, and some other food items were recovered.

Also, another suspect, 25-year-old Happy Boi Akaibe, was arrested during a stop and search duty along Ekuku-Agbor Community that same day.

The suspect was arrested when items including a locally made Cut-To-Size Double Barrel Gun and a cartridge were found on him during the search.

CP Abaniwonda, noting the grave threat illegal firearms pose to public safety, added that the tireless work of the officers of the command is instrumental in ensuring the safety and security of our communities.

He further encouraged the public to reciprocate the diligence and efforts of the police in fighting crime by reporting any suspicious incident to the nearest police station or through the control room number: 08036684974.”
