ZAMFARA State Commissioner of Police, Mr Shaba Alkali, has said the police has rescued 30 out of the 35 kidnapped women in the state.
He disclosed this during a press briefing at his office on Monday evening.
Alkali stated the command received the news of the abduction at the early hours of Monday morning.
“Without wasting time, we deployed our men to Matankari area of Dansadau to free the abducted women.”
He said the 35 women were working at a farm before the gunmen attacked and abducted them at a village in Dansadau Emirate of Maru local government area.
The commissioner said of the 35 abductees, 30 have been liberated and united with their families in healthy condition, while the remaining five are being searched.
He said the success in the rescue operation was due to the state government’s support in the area of logistics.
The police commissioner therefore advised the general public to always remain vigilant and report any suspicious character in their communities to the nearest authority.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, has commended the effort of the police and other security agencies in the rescue operation.
