Nigeria Police, Bauchi State Command, has recovered a cache of firearms hidden underground in its effort to mop up illegal firearms with the view to maintain public security and safety.
The recovery was made possible to the Command through its intelligence gathering initiatives and personnel.
According to the Command PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili in a statement he made available to Journalists on Tuesday, the reliable and timely information at the Command’s disposals revealed that a suspicious polythene bag was sighted near River Chika-Chika, about 200m away from the main road along Gida-Dubu quarters in Ningi local government Area of the state.
Upon receiving the report, the operatives attached to Ningi Police Divisional Headquarters led by the Divisional Police Officer cordoned the area and in the process, recovered the assorted firearms.
While commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed Musa, urged the operatives to sustain the intelligence-led policing in a bid to achieve the objectives of the command.
The CP also charged citizens to see policing, communal safety, and security as a joint mandate with the Police, adding that in so doing, they should demonstrate more sensitivity to the issue of crime prevention and offer useful criminal information that will aid the Police in keeping them safe.
According to him, “The wider the trust and information-sharing gap between the Police and the citizens, the more we as a people inadvertently empower criminal elements to succeed in their evil plan to threaten our value for peace and security.”
