The Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State command has recovered 20 cows and one cattle from suspected cattle rustlers in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ahmed Rufai, who briefed newsmen on behalf of the state commissioner of police, CP Ali Kaigama, at the command’s headquarters in the state on Thursday said the cattle were recovered along Kware-Gada Bush.
According to the statement, “on 16/01/2024, at about 1100hrs, a team of anti-kidnapping operatives attached to state CID, in conjunction with that of the SWAT acted on an intelligence and intercepted yet to be identified armed cattle rustlers along Kware – Gada bush.
“On sighting the police, the hoodlums took to their heels, and after given a hot chase, they abandoned the stolen cattle, as a result, twenty cows and one donkey were recovered at the scene.”
He further said following a discreet investigation by the command, one Malami Hayatu, a resident of Kware was identified to be the owner of the cattle.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, Hayatu said the cattle were rustled in his compound by the rustlers.
He said, “On the 14th of January this year, armed robbers attacked my house in Kware and made away with twenty cows and one donkey, we couldn’t challenge them because they’re armed.
“I made a report to the Police station and thank God, the state police command was able to retrieve the cattle and is being handed over to me today.”
He commended the Nigerian Police for swinging into action following the reports while calling for more support to the security agents in the discharge of their duties.
