Police parade suspects for various crimes in Delta

Operatives of the Nigeria Police, Delta State Command, have paraded some suspects arrested for various crimes across the state in the month of March.

The suspects, which include a fake pastor who was arrested over involvement in a kidnap saga in Ughelli. 

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, while parading suspects in Asaba, the state capital, has appealed to residents of the state to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in the fight against crime and criminality by providing  credible information to enable the force serve them better. 

The Police boss said everyone should be guided by the principle of “if you see something, say something”  in order to get rid of criminals in the state.

“Consequently on 8/4/2024,  operatives on special assignment working on credible intelligence stormed one of the hotels in Udu local government area and arrested a notorious kidnapper.

“Upon his arrest, the suspect gave useful information that led to the recovery of one pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges, one Beretta pistol and three rounds of 9mm”, Olufemi said 

Among other suspects was a 17-year-old boy (name withheld) who faked his own kidnap in Okhumer, Agbor Obi in Ika south council area of the state.

He had forwarded a voice note to his sister stating that he had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding the sum of N1m. 

Detectives acting on a technically generated intelligence, the police commissioner said, arrested three suspects, adding that the boy connived with his friends in the act.

According to him, the duo had already collected a ransom of N700,000 and had squandered the money.   

In another development, CP Olufemi disclosed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper who raped a 23-year-old girl in Abraka, Ethiope East council area of the state.

“On 10/4/2024, at about 0330hrs, acting on credible information received that armed robbers were operating around Urhoaka community in Abraka,  a team of Police officers and vigilantes were deployed to the scene. 

“The team laid an ambush and arrested one Ogwu Endurance ‘m’ and two single barrel cut-to-size guns were recovered from him. 

“Preliminary information revealed that the suspect has been involved in series of kidnapping in Abraka axis, the suspect during one of his armed robbery raped his victim a 23 year old girl. Effort to arrest his other gang members is ongoing.

“The 20 years old boy, one Raphael Egbo, who stabbed his girlfriend, Jessica Uzowanne, 19 years,  to death in Ozoro headquarters of Isoko North Council area over a disagreement was also paraded.”

The police boss further stated: “On the 5th April 2024, at about 2300hours, one Ngozi Sharon William went to visit a family friend, one Mr Nicholas Charles ‘m’ and his wife at No.10 Adizue Onochei Street Asaba. While the said Ngozi was in the apartment, a disagreement ensued between herself and the said Nicholas, which took them to the kitchen. During the course of the disagreement, the suspect Mr Nicholas picked a knife on the fridge and stabbed the victim which led to her death.”

He said following the recent upsurge of kidnapping in Ughelli, a special team has been deployed to the area, adding that some of the suspects terrorising the area have been identified, arrested and their arms recovered, while other gang members are being trailed.
