Police nab man for alleged kidnap in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, a resident of Runjin Gani in Toro LGA, for the alleged kidnapping and murder of an 8-year-old boy, Kamal Aliyu.

The arrest was announced in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili, which was made available to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday.

According to the statement, the suspect is a next-door neighbor to the boy’s family.

On August 4, 2024, Kamal Aliyu was reported kidnapped by unknown individuals in Runjin Gani village, Toro LGA, Bauchi State.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Toro Police Division launched an intensive search and rescue operation in the area.

Acting on credible intelligence and a tip-off on August 15, 2024, the DPO apprehended Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, a close neighbor of the victim’s family.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual, whose identity remains unknown, to kidnap Kamal Aliyu by luring him under the pretense of delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Runji.

Although the father complied and took the ransom to the designated location, the suspects were unable to retrieve it due to the presence of security operatives in the area.

The Command extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and reiterates its commitment to protecting life and property, assuring the public that every effort is being made to bring all those involved in this heinous crime to justice.
