Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested one Emmanuel Linus and Moses Daniel, for impersonating a Nigerian Army officer.
The suspect was apprehended on November 30, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., dressed in full Nigerian Army camouflage uniform.
During initial interrogation, Linus presented a fake military identification card that listed December 20, 2024, as his date of birth, raising immediate suspicions.
Further intelligence gathered while he was in custody revealed that Linus is allegedly a member of a criminal syndicate specializing in defrauding unsuspecting victims.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, disclosed this to newsmen while parading criminal suspects at the Command’s Headquarters in Garki 11, Abuja.
He said, “The group reportedly purchases goods and services using fake bank alerts to deceive sellers.
“The police have commenced a thorough investigation into the matter, with efforts ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
“Authorities have assured the public that additional updates will be provided as investigations progress.
“In a related development the FCT CP reveal that the Command’s operatives also arrested a dismissed police officer and one person for vandalism in Abuja.
He said, “In the last two months of 2024, I have set a firm agenda focusing on intensifying efforts to combat crime, particularly vandalism, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“This agenda emphasizes increased patrols, community engagement, and strategic responses to emerging threats, including the rampant vandalism of streetlights and public infrastructure.
“In line with this commitment, the FCT Police Command, following five days of surveillance after noticing suspicious movements around manholes in the area, made a significant breakthrough.
“On November 29, 2024, at approximately 3:49 AM, a distress call was received regarding the vandalism of streetlight poles behind the Foreign Affairs Office in Abuja. Acting swiftly, operatives apprehended two suspects, Mr. Awal Mustaf and Mr. David Avid Maji (a dismissed police officer), during the operation.
“The stolen streetlight cables, property of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCTA), were estimated to be worth between ₦20 million and ₦25 million.
“Items recovered from the suspects include, Two medium-sized streetlight poles – Several large streetlight poles – Cables Both suspects are currently in custody and undergoing comprehensive investigation.”
