The Ogun Police Command successfully rescued four hostages and neutralized two suspects following a gun battle with kidnappers.
Among the rescued individuals were one Nigerian and three Indian nationals.
According to the Daily Trust, the incident began on Sunday night when gunmen attacked travelers on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, resulting in a driver being shot and several travelers abducted.
During a press briefing at the state headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Police Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu revealed that the command’s anti-kidnapping squad tracked the kidnappers into a forest.
“Through a covert operation, the suspects were located in a bush where they were hiding. Upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, they engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team.

“The Anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons.
“The victims, later identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families,” he said.
Alamutu said 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 5 AK 47K rifles, eight AK 47 magazines and two cell phones were recovered from the suspects.
He reiterated the command’s commitment “to safeguarding lives and property, a primary duty for us.”
