Police kill notorious criminal

MEN of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) federal operating in Kogi State have killed a notorious criminal, simply known as Luckman aka Commander, who allegedly led his gang to attack the residence of the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Senator Dino Melaye, last April.

However, following the development, members of his gang went on rampage on Sunday and burnt vehicles, police post, attacking the residence of the state commissioner for water resources, Deedat Salami.

The Kogi State police command had declared Luckman wanted after some of his members were arrested in connection with the alleged assassination attempt on Melaye.

Metro learnt in Lokoja, the state capital on Monday that the notorious criminal who hailed from Obeiba in Ihima, Okehi local government area of the state was killed on Sunday afternoon during exchange of gunshots with men of SARS from Abuja.

The security operatives were said to have stormed Obeiba at about 3pm on Sunday in three Hilux Vans and heavily armed headed straight to the residence of Luckman.

Eye witness accounts further disclosed to that on sighting the security operatives, Luckman and members of his gang opened fire on them but they were overpowered by the police.

He was subsequently gunned down on the spot by the security and many of his gang were arrested.

The sources went further to mention that his lifeless body was carried away by the security men.

Luckman was said to be a terrible criminal who had several time kidnapped, killed and also robbed people within and outside Kogi State.

But the remaining members of the gang were said to have gone on rampage also destroying the palace of a traditional ruler, the Obobanyi of Emani clan, Chief Samuel Onimisi.

The quick intervention of security men, especially the military and police restored peace in the community.

However, the commissioner of police in the state, Wilson Inalegwu, has confirmed the notorious criminal was killed, while arrests were also made.

According to him, the said Luckman and his gang opened fire on the SARS but was killed during the cross fire while some of his gang members were arrested.
