Police kill highway robber in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, on Wednesday, May 23, shot dead an armed robbery suspect at Fidiwo area on the Lagos/Ibadan highway.

 Tribuneonline gathered that police at the Isara division received a distress call that hoodlums operating on motorcycles had blocked the highway, while dispossessing commuters of their belongings.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Isara Division, CSP Yussuf Taiwo, led his men to the scene, but on sighting the policemen, the robbers fired at them, while the police also fired back.

At the end of the gun duel, one of the robbers was shot dead, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The PPRO said a cut-to-size locally-made pistol and two Bajaj motorcycles which the hoodlums used for the operation were recovered.

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, while commending the quick response to the distress call, said the escaped suspects would be tracked down and arrested.
