“His arrest led to the capture of two other suspects, Abubakar Mohammed (‘Chede’) and Mohammed Bellow, at Otovwodo Park in Ughelli North.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly responsible for multiple kidnappings and armed robberies in Iyamuge, Otu-Jeremi, Warri, and Ughelli.

“Acting on their confessions, police operatives raided Iyamugo Forest, where they recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, three locally made firearms, two magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 17 live cartridges.

“As the operatives exited the forest, suspected gang members launched an attack, engaging the police in a gun duel.

“Five of the attackers sustained gunshot wounds and later died in the hospital, while others managed to escape,” the statement read.

The police confirmed that the arrested suspects and recovered weapons are in custody, with investigations ongoing.

“The deployment of the CP Special Assignment Team by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has proven to be a masterstroke, bringing calm to the area,” SP Bright stated.
