In the letter of invitation headlined “Re: Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Misappropriation and Criminal Breach of Trust,” signed by ACP Abbas Sule, for the Commissioner of Police, IGP Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the police also requested Ameh to come with Dr Yunus Tanko, on Monday, 10 September, 2018, by 10.00 a.m.
Tanko was the chairman of the electoral committee that conducted the election that ushered in Ameh as the IPAC chairman.

But IPAC has described the police invitation extended as a ploy to stall the take-off of activities of its new executive committee, which has been billed for Monday, the same day the police have planned for the invitation.
The umbrella body of registered political parties in Nigeria, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, alleged that the police had planned the invitation to enable them to detain Ameh and “keep him in prison pending when he relinquishes his mandate.”
IPAC alleged that the police were planning to seize Ameh on trumped-up charges for defeating his opponent in the election, held on Wednesday at the INEC Electoral Institute, Chief Chekwas Okorie, who it claimed to be an apologist of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We call on Nigerians to join us to resist this latest act of the IGP whose loyal officers, just a few days ago, raided the home of Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark,” the body said.
