The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the suicide of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shafiu Bawa, who was attached to the 61 Police Mobile Force in Kontagora.
ASP Bawa reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself on the ceiling at around 2 pm on Saturday, February 8th, 2025.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the police received reports of the incident from ASP Bawa’s father, who found his son’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.
The police subsequently removed the body and released it to the family for burial.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding ASP Bawa’s death, as the reason behind his actions is still unknown.
The incident has shocked the community, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
