Abia State Government (ABSG) and the state command of the Nigeria Police Monday confirmed the death of an Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) student during a cult clash Monday.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing the Press Monday after the week’s State Executive Council meeting, “It has come to the notice of the state government about skirmishes in Abia State University Uturu between student groups where a student lost his life.
“Some remedial actions have been taken to return peace in the school. The state government has despatched some security agencies to Abia State University Uturu. Investigation is on and students are advised to refrain from violence and actions that can bring death and face their studies”.
Also confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie said the police are aware of the incident and that investigation on the matter has commenced.
Sources have it that the victim is a 400-level History and International Relations student and an alleged member of a cult group who was attacked by members of a rival group within the university area which led to his death.
The school authorities could not be reached for their reactions as at press time.
