Police confirm abduction of Imam, nine other Muslims during prayer in Sokoto

THE Nigeria Police, Sokoto State Command, has confirmed the abduction of no fewer than 10 persons during (Subhi) Muslim early morning prayer in Bushe community, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman of the state Police command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident while speaking with our correspondent on Friday.

He, however, assured that the command was working in synergy with other security agents to ensure that those abducted were rescued from their abductors.

It was gathered that suspected gunmen, in the early hours of Thursday, attacked the mosque in Bushe in Sabon Birni and made away with no fewer than 10 worshipers including the Imam of the mosque.

A source in the community, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said the incident happened when worshipers were performing their (Subhi) early morning prayer.

The source said the gunmen had been molesting the people of the community for some time now, even with the presence of security agents especially troops of operation FASAN YAMMA, from 8 Division headquarters.

He said the quick intervention of the security agents led by the troops of Nigerian Army curtailed the activities of the gunmen.

Also confirming the incident, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, representing the community, Sa’idu Ibrahim, said no fewer than 10 persons were taken away in the process.

He confirmed that the quick intervention of the troops of Operation Fasan Yamma was the saving grace that helped in limiting the number of persons abducted.
