Police commence enforcement of third party motor insurance in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command, on Saturday, commenced the enforcement of third-party motor insurance across the state, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The enforcement exercise was led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, who monitored the compliance level among motorists in areas such as Oke Ilewo, Ibara, Panseke, Olomore, and the OPIC roundabout in Abeokuta.

The exercise revealed significant adherence to the directive, though some motorists appealed for additional time to update their vehicle insurance.

During the enforcement, motorists without valid third-party insurance but with other required vehicle documents were granted a grace period and educated on the importance of compliance.

CP Ogunlowo emphasized that third-party motor insurance is a vital safety measure that provides financial protection for accident victims and ensures that insurance companies compensate those affected.

The Ogun State Police Command urged all vehicle owners to regularize their insurance status immediately to avoid penalties. The enforcement exercise will continue across the state as part of ongoing efforts to promote road safety and uphold the rule of law.
