A member of a four-man syndicate, which specialises in robbing bank customers has exposed how the gang dupes unsuspecting bank customers.
The suspect, Biola (surname withheld) was onThursday arrested by Dopemu Divisional Police Station after one of the gang’s victims alerted a patrol team from the station.
The image maker in charge of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest of the suspect to Metro, adding that efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang.
The suspect, it was learnt, confessed that the gang pretended to be spitualists to lure their victims to the hideout.
It was gathered that the gang had duped a certain Rafiu of the sum of N150,000 before regaining consciousness and alerting the police .
The arrested suspect, a resident of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, while confessing to the crime, stated that their mode of operation was that she lurked around bank premises after which she would accost customers carrying money under pretense that she had lost her way and needed help to locate her destination.
According to the state police spokesperson, “in the process, she would be making some ‘spiritual’ revelation to her victim.”
The arrested suspect was said to be responsible for luring the victims to a location, where the three others would be waiting.
She would have lied to the victim that she wanted to take him or her to a place where prayers would be offered to solve his or her spiritual problems.
Badmos stated that “while the purported prayer is going on, the bag containing the victim’ s money will be replaced with papers covered with a few Naira notes and the suspects subsequently disappears with the money.”
She also said that the state police boss, Fatai Owoseni, had directed that the case should be charged to court, while the manhunt for other members of the gang should be also intensified.
