Police arrest two kidnap suspects in Ondo

The efforts of the security operatives in Ondo to curb kidnapping and rid the state of criminal and their activities on Monday, yielded positive results as two suspected kidnappers were arrested.

The two suspects, Alhassan Saleh and Yahaya Yakubu were arrested while trying to kidnap Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim and Moshood Suleiman, in the early hours of Monday, at Shagari village in Akure, Ondo state capital.

It was gathered that about four gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the home of their victims and successfully kidnapped them and subsequently moved their victims towards Owo.

The hoodlums were stopped in Ijelu junction around Owo, where they exchanged gunshot with the police.

Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, explained that security operatives who were alerted of the development swung into action and rounded up the suspects who opened fire on the security agents.

He said the two victims were rescued unhurt while the two of the hoodlums were arrested while two other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.

He explained that 42 years old Saleh from Nasarawa state and 24 years old Yahaya Yakubu from Kano state have confessed to the crime.

Joseph said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects while those arrested are helping the security agents in their investigations.
