Police arrest three suspected motorcycle thieves in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested three suspected motorcycle thieves in Gidan Kwano, a community in Bosso Local Government Area of the state, over the theft of a Hajoue motorcycle marked KNT 328QB.

The suspects were apprehended by police operatives attached to the Kpakungu Division, Minna, while on a surveillance mission along the Minna-Bida Highways axis.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated this in a press release issued and made available to journalists on Tuesday in Minna.

The statement noted that on 08/08/2024, at about 0700 hours, information was received that a Hajoue motorcycle with registration number KNT 328 QB was stolen from Bida in the early hours of the day.

It added that as soon as the report was received at the Bida Police Area Command Office, the surveillance team attached to the office circulated the report, which yielded positive results.

Consequently, Abiodun said the police patrol team attached to the Kpakungu Division in Minna, the state capital, arrested two suspects with the said motorcycle at Gidan-Kwano, a community on the outskirts of Minna, in Bosso Local Government Area.

The suspects were identified as Ahmed Nasir, 24, and Abdullahi Ahmed, 21, both of Sabongida area of Bida.

The statement further highlighted that earlier, on 07/08/2024, at about 0630 hours, one Abubakar Jibrin, 32, of Dwayagi village near Bida, was arrested at the same location with an unregistered Hajoue motorcycle.

During interrogation, the first suspect, Ahmed Nasir, and his accomplice, Abdullahi Ahmed, allegedly confessed that they stole the motorcycle from a student lodge in Bida.

They further confessed that they were taking the motorcycle to Minna for disposal. Meanwhile, Abubakar Jibrin confessed that the motorcycle was given to him by a notorious ex-convict named Dauda (other names withheld) to deliver to another suspect, who is still at large, in Minna for sale.

The State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, assured that an investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect.

He also confirmed that all the suspects in custody will face prosecution in the appropriate court in Bida LGA of the state.
