The police have arrested three individuals suspected of kidnapping and armed robbery in Ekiti State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sunday Abutu, the suspects were apprehended by Safer Highway Operatives during a routine stop and search along the Awo-Ekiti/Igede-Ekiti road last weekend.

The suspects, who were intercepted while traveling in a commercial vehicle, claimed to be en route from Ondo State to Kwara State. They are identified as Sunday Idoko, Gabriel Sunday, and Olayiwola Olajide, and were reasonably suspected of being armed robbers.

He added, “Meanwhile, it took the bravery and professional tactics of the Operatives to arrest them as they initially tried to escape arrest by approaching the checkpoint at high speed.

“Investigations revealed that they are members of a particular cult group who were traveling to Kwara State for an operation.

“Items recovered from them are: one locally made pistol concealed in a towel, two live cartridges, three phones, one Power Bank, a substance suspected to be a charm, and a cash sum of one hundred and fifty-five thousand naira.”

The PPRO added that a suspect identified as Abubakar Sadiu was arrested in a commercial bus, “who was reasonably suspected to be a kidnapper.”

“The suspect, who attempted to bribe the policemen with a sum of fifty thousand naira(#50,000) but was turned down and arrested, claimed to be en routing Kwara State from Ondo State but could not give a definite location in either State.

“Items recovered from him are: a cash sum of three hundred and ninety-seven naira (#397,000), 10kg of red oil, two smartphones, one head torch light, one lighter, an empty black bag and one black face cap.

“The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation.”

Abutu said that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo solicited the support of residents of the state, ” including during stop and search operations, to enable success in the fight against crimes and criminality in the State.”
