Police arrest three associates of wanted Chadian terrorist in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three associates of a wanted Chadian suspected terrorist, including his wife.

On Friday, the State Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo Garba, confirmed the arrest of the suspects while addressing the press, adding that “The wanted Chadian suspected terrorist escaped out of Nigeria and is currently in Cameroon.”

According to him, “We have successfully apprehended three of the suspect’s associates, including his wife, another Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, 42 years old, and a Nigerian.”

Mr Garba further stated that the wanted suspected terrorist, Ahmad Adam Abba, a Chadian national who masterminded the killing of 17 people in the Republic of Chad, was identified as planning to set up a terrorist base in Kano.

The suspects were arrested following a thorough investigation and intelligence-led policing, and they are currently in custody with the investigation ongoing.

“I am pleased to announce that the Command has made significant progress in our efforts to dismantle these networks and neutralise any potential risks as there is no hiding place for criminals in the State.

“In addition to the aforementioned arrests, we have ramped up our intelligence-gathering efforts across various places.

“You will recall that on 24th January 2025, the Command released a security alert, calling on the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious person or item to the authority following a series of intelligence reports from various intelligence agencies about the presence of suspected terrorists in the State.

“Acting on one of the intelligence reports, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered with discreet investigations in progress,” the commissioner said.

Mr Garba said, “Our teams are collaborating closely with other intelligence agencies and the communities to ensure that we are working hand-in-hand to identify any suspicious activities and individuals who may pose a security threat to our society.”

The command has intensified patrol and surveillance measures in key areas known to be vulnerable, he said.

“The Command through its public relations unit will continue conducting awareness programmes to educate the public on the importance of reporting suspicious activities.

“It is vital that we foster trust and cooperation between the Police and the communities we serve, as this partnership is essential in combating crime and preventing any likely emerging security threats.

While appreciating the continued support of the Kano State Government and the good people of the State, the commissioner reassured members of the public that the command is fully committed to maintaining peace and order in the state as their safety is paramount.

Mr Garba therefore called on the public to continue to cooperate with the Police and be proactive in providing valuable information that will aid in surmounting any likely emerging security threat.
