Police arrest suspected robber, drug peddlers in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, under the new Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, have arrested a suspected armed robber and three alleged drug peddlers in the state.

While on a random search, the operatives arrested Fidelis Akpos, aged 23, a resident of Ewhu Community Ughelli South Local Government Area along Kwale–Ogwashi-Uku Expressway on February 5, onboard a Sienna bus and recovered a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges from him.

Three cartons of 100 bottles of CSC Codeine and 400 sachets of 250mg of Tramadol, and some other suspected hard drugs were recovered from the trio of Lucky Emmanuel, of Ughelli aged 40yrs, and Enunwuune Snu, aged 46yrs, and Jacob Efedeye, aged 32yrs.

The trio were arrested on Wednesday February 7  at about 11:00p.m, operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while conducting stop-and-search at Head-Bridge, Asaba, onboard a Toyota Hiace bus.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, said the three suspects had concealed the gun and cartridges inside a polythene bag containing smoked fish to serve as a decoy.

The four suspects, according to Edafe, are now being further investigated by the command for possible prosecution.

He disclosed that CP Abaniwonda has assured residents of the state a peaceful, safe and secure Delta State, but  warned that all forms of criminality, lawlessness, or behavior that contravenes the laws of the land will be dealt with accordingly.

“He expressed his sincere appreciation to the officers for carrying out their duties diligently and outsmarting these suspects.

“He reiterated that under his watch, the command will do all it takes within the ambit of the law to ensure that a safer environment for all Deltans, residents and non-residents is achieved.”

Edafe further quoted the CP as urging the “law-abiding public to always report any criminal activities to the nearest police station or call the Command Control Room: (08036684974; 08125958005; 09053872287).

“Alternatively, anonymous tip-off can be relayed via the PPRO Office: (09155570007; 09155570008) with confidence that the command will act swiftly and treat their identities with utmost confidentiality.”
