Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspected kidnappers including a serial suspect who has been operating across the state kidnapping innocent people for ransom.
The disclosure was made by the State Police Commissioner, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi while briefing Journalists at the Command headquarters on Friday on the activities of the Command in the last two months.
He stated that On 27th August, 2021 at about 1237hrs, Policemen in collaboration with professional Hunters of Gwana district, Alkaleri Local Government Area while on routine stop and search operation to stem criminal activities arrested one Usman Adamu aged 42 years of Sabon Layi Rugga village, Gwana.
He was arrested along with the following prohibited firearms; three locally fabricated guns; 10 live ammunition and on interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime of kidnapping and mentioned his accomplices who are now at large.
They are Saidu Alhaji Garba; Kado Adamu and Ahmadu Isa, all of the same address who are into kidnapping and robbery. Effort is being intensified to arrest the above-mentioned suspects as Investigation is ongoing.
In another related development, on 03/09/2021 at about 2330hrs information received from a good Samaritan with sustained efforts coupled with intelligence led to the arrest of one Ibrahim Adamu aged 25 years of Kwanar Malam Tukur village, Jos North LGA of Plateau State, and one Musa Musa alias Bature aged 45 years of Sabon Garin Narabi Toro LGA.
They were alleged to have criminally conspired with Buhari Mahanga, Isah Magama, and Yellow Magama now at large stormed the house of one Alhaji Abdullahi Abdullahi aged 45 years of Magama Gari, Toro LGA, shot him, and kidnapped his two wives to an unknown destination.
Thereafter, they demanded and collected the sum of N1,200,000 as ransom, during the course of interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime.
An investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
Also, on 12/9/2021 at about 1700hrs through intelligence gathering, one Sanusi Lauwali alias ‘no delay’ of Gudale village, Ningi LGA Bauchi state was arrested.
On preliminary investigation, Sunusi Lauwali confessed to having relocated from Tunga village in Plateau state to Gudale village in Ningi LGA and revealed to have been at a mining site of Tunga village for 2 years where he belonged to a group of criminals who specialized in arm robbery and kidnapping.
His gang members include; one Ali, Bammi Welcome (real name not yet known) with the suspect, Sunusi Lauwali stating his involvement in some kidnapping and arm robbery activities around Dabbar Tsintsiya and Tunga villages in Plateau State.
He confirmed to have benefited the sum of N250, 000 as his share from the proceed of crime they collected from their kidnapped victim at Dabar Tsintsiya village as the investigation is being expanded to nail down the fleeing accomplices.
On the 13/09/2021 at about 1830hrs through a joint operation by the Police and Hunters Group, an arrest was made of
Mohammed Aliyu 21 years, Umar Jibrin 20 years who conspired with one Aliyu Mahmud and Sadiq Bappaji and stormed the house of one Danfulani Sabo of Tudun Wada village, Toro LGA, kidnapped him to an unknown destination, demanded and collected the sum of N500, 000 as ransom before his release.
The suspects were apprehended with the sum of N106,240 in their possession as proceed of the crime which they confessed to have committed.
Furthermore, the suspects revealed that they shared the ransom where N60,000 was given to Mohammed Aliyu and the sum of N50,000 was given to Umar Jibrin. Meanwhile, an investigation is in progress after which the suspects will be charged to court and face prosecution.
The Police Commissioner also said that On 2nd August 2021 at about 1100hrs, the Rapid Response Squad team of the Command, in collaboration with members of the Committee in the Kandahar area of Bauchi Metropolis acted speedily on credible information by the operatives and arrested six suspected house to house armed robbery suspects.
They are Idris Hussaini AKA Yawale 20 years; Kamalu Abdulmumini 24 years of Kandahar area of Bauchi; Lukman Mohammed 18yrs of Unguwan Bauchi, area of Bauchi; Mamman Umar 23yrs of Unguwan Sarkin Shanu, Alkaleri LGA; Hussaini Isyaku 22yrs of Unguwan Baba Alkaleri; Ismail Mohammed AKA Tegi 20yrs all of kofar Dumi area of Bauchi Metropolis, at Kandahar.
On interrogation, the suspects confessed that some months ago, they conspired among themselves and attacked two houses by midnight at Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi state, with cutlasses and robbed the occupants of their belongings.
The items include; four handsets, the sum of N2000, 000 cash and shared among themselves just as Two receivers were arrested in connection with the case, as follows; Abdullahi Aliyu 20yrs of Wunti area of Bauchi and Aminu Ibrahim 19yrs of Kandahar area of Bauchi. An investigation is in progress after which the suspected will be charged to court for prosecution.
In another development, on 14th of August 2021 at about 1430hrs, actionable intelligence and credible information at the disposal of the Command on the activities of armed robbery syndicate, specialized in burglary and robbery mostly at night led to the arrest of one Yahaya Ibrahim aged 18yrs of Fadaman Mada area of Bauchi metropolis by operatives of the state Command.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and categorically mentioned one Aminu Ibrahim aged 20yrs alias Jolly, Umar Ibrahim aged 21yrs alias Alanta all of Bauchi Metropolis, where the detectives swiftly arrested the said two accomplices.
They also confessed that they conspired among themselves to rob two Houses with cutlasses and knives at Fadaman Mada area and carted away the belongings of their victims.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include; One rubber motorcycle, two laptops; Three Android handsets.
Meanwhile, suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
Also, on 15th August 2021 at about 2300hrs, one Sa’adu Abdulkadir aged 18 of Madina Quarters reported at ‘C’ Division that on the same date at about 2130hrs while on commercial activities within the town with a Boxer motorcycle valued at N290,000.
Around BACAS junction, he picked up an unknown passenger to Madina Quarters, and on getting to an isolated area, the passenger hit him with a stone on his head where he lost consciousness and the culprit took away the said motorcycle.
On receipt of the report, a full-scale investigation was launched where on the 20th of August 2021 the said suspect was arrested with the stolen motorcycle in Kano State and was identified as Munkaila Abdullahi aged 26yrs of Ningi, L.G.A, Bauchi State. On interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime. Exhibits recovered include One Stone with blood stain, Boxer Motorcycle. The suspect, will, however, be charged to court.
Again, on 21st August 2021 at about 2340hrs one Khalid Nafiu Bunu aged 41yrs of Fadaman Mada area Bauchi reported at ‘C’ Division that on the same date at about 2315hrs four unknown armed men with AK47 riffles in a black Honda accord trailed him into his Bakery 212 located at the same address while he was about to park his Toyota Corolla, 2009 model, robbed him of the Car, two Mobile phones and the sum of N500, 000.
On receipt of the report, a team of operatives was drafted to the scene. An investigation commenced in earnest and the said vehicle was driven by one Idris Abubakar aged 59yrs of farm-center, Maiduguri, Borno State was tracked down and intercepted along Dukku road, Gombe State on 24th August 2021 at about 0302hrs by a team of the safer highway patrol.
The suspect was apprehended on his way to Yola, Adamawa State to sell the car to one Abdulrasheed.On preliminary investigation, one Muntari Musa alias Didi Maye 45yrs of Nasarawa Jahun was arrested, where both idris and Muntari confessed they conspired with one Ado and one other now at large to perpetrate the crime. An investigation is being expanded to nail down the fleeing accomplices for prosecution.
The Commissioner said that “The Command not relenting despite challenges we are facing achieved another feat in crime-fighting, on 31st August 2021 at about 0500hours the Police in collaboration with the members of peace and security committee Bauchi arrested the following persons: Alhaji Garba aged 21 alias Armour, Ubale Garba aged 23 alias Baba, Rabiu Yusuf aged 22 alias Gwamnatin Rizila and Abdulmalik Kabiru aged 18yrs alias Abba all of Kasuwan Waya Muda lawal market Bauchi in possession of one locally made pistol one cutlass, two daggers, one sword, a small number of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. An investigation is in progress, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.”
Alabi said that “Gentlemen of the press, from the foregoing, it is obvious that the Bauchi State Police Command has not been resting on its oars in the areas of crime bursting towards ensuring adequate peace and security in Bauchi and environs”.
“We shall not relent and we shall continue to deliver on our mandate to protect lives and properties of the people of Bauchi state by ensuring a peaceful and conducive atmosphere to enable the good people of Bauchi state to go about their normal and lawful businesses and to keep them abreast on the progress of the Command regularly,” he assured.
He concluded that “This press briefing is in line with our tradition of keeping members of the press updated with timely, accurate and updated information and happenings in our line of duty towards promoting necessary awareness for the security of lives and properties in Bauchi State”.
According to him, “During the period under review, the Command has put in tremendous efforts in order to reduce crime and criminality in its area of operations to the barest minimum and this has yielded remarkable results which we have highlighted.”
