Police arrest on-the-run suspect who murdered parents in Lagos

Published by

Detectives from Alausa Division of Lagos State Police Command have arrested Okhide Michael, four and half years after he gruesomely murdered his parents, Clement and Toyin Okhide.

A credible source told Tribune Online that the suspect was arrested at Ikeja Mall beside the Secretariat at about 8:16 am on Thursday, October 17.

The arrest was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin when contacted by the Tribune Online.

The PPRO said that an investigation is ongoing.

It was learnt the Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, had previously hinted that the suspect was sighted close to Alausa Secretariat at about 11pm on Wednesday, which made him to give directives to Alausa Division, headed by CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, to look out for and apprehend him.

Tribune Online gathered that Michael had been moving about the Alausa area before his arrest, begging for alms, but was not recognized by anyone due to his dirty looks.

He was promptly taken to the office of the Police Commissioner after his arrest for questioning.

It will be recalled that Michael, who was then 23 years old, allegedly stabbed his parents to death on February 4, 2020, in their home at Akeem Gbadamosi Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos.

He also attacked his sister, Mary, before running away.

Since then, he had been at large, but there had been manhunt for him by the police command in order to make him face the full wrath of the law.

He was said to be high on drugs which influenced his act.

His late father, Barrister Okhide, aged 60, was said to be the newly elected CDA chairman, Ailegun West, Ejigbo, while the mother, who was 50 years old at the time she was killed, was a matron at Isolo General Hospital.

At the time of the occurrence, residents explained how Michael had attended three private universities with no positive results, as he was expelled as a result of hard drugs.

Before he murdered his parents, they were said to have tried their best to help him become useful, but he ended up terminating their lives.

Police operatives from the Ejigbo Division, where CSP Olabisi Okuwobi was the DPO then, had retrieved the corpses and deposited them at Isolo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
