TribuneOnline learnt that trouble began between the man and his wife on December 1 at Abosule area of Agbado community when the deceased informed Kasali that she wanted to go and fetch water, which he objected to.
The disagreement, according to the couple’s neighbour, Tunde Babatunde, who reported the incident at Agbado Division, led to a scuffle between the two.
In the process, the suspected reportedly continued to beat his wife until she became unconscious. She was said to have died as she was being rushed to a hospital.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi told TribuneOnline that the report of the incident led the Divisional Police Officer, Agbado Division, CSP Olatunji Omonijo and his detectives to the scene where the suspect was apprehended.
“On interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a butcher and said that he had been out of job for some months, which made his wife to start disrespecting him,” the PPRO said.

When TribuneOnline interviewed the suspect, he admitted that his wife wanted to fetch water at about 3:00 a.m., which he objected to.
“My wife would sometimes act as if she had marine spirit, so I warned her not to go and returned to bed.
“It was when I woke up that I saw her on the floor and I carried her and put her on the chair.
“Another incident that happened was that she earlier told me she was pregnant and I told her I was not disposed to such news.
“She also accused me of peeping on the private part of a commercial sex worker who had a room in our house and planning to sleep with her. This made me angry and I beat her. She knew that I was not happy with the way my meat selling business broke down. This made so edgy that I reacted negatively to everything she said.”
“Later, I saw her taking some medications. She later complained of stomach ache.”
The suspected disclosed that his wife had three children for him and prayed for her recovery, unknown to him that she was dead.
Oyeyemi, who said that the corpse of the victim had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue for autopsy, added that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
