A local hunter identified as Joseph Ajegba, has been arrested by men of the Ondo state Police command over the shooting of his friend for having sexual relationship with his woman friend.
Ajegba, who was arrested for attempted murder, was said to have perpetrated the act in Ikun-Akoko in Akoko Southwest local government area of the state, while his friend was in bed with the woman friend.
While speaking, the suspect explained that he was infuriated with his friend’s action, and decided to shoot him while sleeping with the mother of three.
According to the 38-year old hunter, he left his home the previous day and passed the night in the woman’s house only to find out that his friend was also having sexual relations with the woman.
He explained that he rented the apartment for the woman and just dropped some bush meats he killed the previous day with her before going for another hunting game but said he returned to meet the woman and his friend having a sexual relationship with his divorced woman friend.
He said “I went out hunting after I have taken some bottles of beer. but I ran out of cartridges. I wanted to return to my girlfriend’s house to sleep there.
“When I got there, I saw the door locked. I now went to the window and I opened it and saw a co-hunter sleeping with my girlfriend. That was why I shot the gun in my hand.”
Speaking during the parade of the hunter, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abayomi Oladipo, said, “On the 23rd of August, 2024 at about 2300hrs, a case of attempted murder was reported to the Police, the victim went to his friend who is a divorcee in her house.
“One, Ajegba Joseph, a hunter aged 38 years who is also having an affair with the woman, went to visit her on the same day in possession of an unlicensed single-barrel gun.
“However, upon sighting the victim with the woman in bed, the suspect shot the victim through the window side.”
He said the victim was hit in the leg and has been in the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Speaking on other crimes, the police boss said “In another act of violence, on August 11, 2024, a commercial motorcyclist was attacked while simply trying to earn his daily bread.
“Contracted to carry a passenger to Oke-Agbe, Adeferati Road in Akungba Akoko, the motorcyclist was ambushed by the passenger and two others who emerged from the bushes.
“Shot in the thigh, he was left for dead as they fled with his motorcycle. Fortunately, the victim survived and was able to identify one of his attackers, leading to the arrest of Saheed Musa, a member of the Neo Black Movement (Aiye Confraternity).”
