The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspect believed to be the mastermind behind the recent escalation of violent clashes between youths in the Kofar Mata and Zango quarters.
According to a statement signed by the Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrest took place on December 24, 2024, around 8:40 p.m., during a police operation near the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kofar Mata.
The suspect, identified as Kabiru Jamilu, a resident of Zango Quarters, admitted during preliminary investigations to organizing and leading the notorious Daba fighting that has disrupted peace in the area.

The Police stated that further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Umar Garba, aged 32, also from Zango Quarters. Garba was found in possession of a sharp knife believed to have been used in the clashes.
The PPRO, however, disclosed that both suspects have been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department and will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has urged residents of Kofar Mata and Zango Quarters to cooperate with the police by providing vital information to ensure peace and security in the community.
He also encouraged the public to report any emergencies or suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency numbers or the NPF Rescue Me app, available on the Play Store.
The Command emphasized its commitment to ending youth violence and ensuring the safety of all residents in the affected areas.
