Police arrest abductors of Channel TV staff, recover arms, ammunition, others

Men of the Nigeria Police have arrested the suspected abductors of Channels Television staff, Friday Okeregbe.

The suspects include 29-year-old Hanniel Patrick from Akwa Ibom State, 28-year-old Abdulwahab Isah and 32-year-old Salisu Mohammed both from Kogi State.

According to a release issued by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba on Sunday, the Police also recovered a locally made revolver gun, three live AK47 ammunition, a battle axe, phones and masks with which the suspects blindfold their victims.

Recall that the Channels Staff, Okeregbe was abducted around Lugbe, Abuja on March 22, 2019, at about 07:45 PM.

Police investigation, however, revealed that Okeregbe who was not the originally intended target was kidnapped after the suspects sighted him parking his vehicle around Lugbe that same day.

“Investigation further reveals that the victim was taken to the kidnappers’ den somewhere in Karimo, Abuja and kept incommunicado afterwards,” Police said.

The release further stated that “the suspects were arrested following intelligence report on April 9, 2019” and they have made “useful statement to the Police,” the release added.

“Effort is being intensified to arrest other members of the gang still at large.

“Meanwhile, the IGP (Mohammed Adamu) has reassured the general public that the Police and other security agencies are doing everything humanly possible to tame the challenges of kidnapping and other heinous crimes across the country.”
